Last Thursday I had the pleasure of participating in the Boston Medical Center’s latest fashion show put on by Openhearts.inc. The show was called Catwalk for BMC Cancer Care. The show featured eight designers, myself included. Each designer showed a collection that would feature professional models and cancer survivors. I chose to use my “Life of the Party” Collection and to create custom pieces for my survivors that would still fit the collection.
Mireille, one of my survivors decided she liked one of the designs in the current collection, and didn’t want a custom piece. Gloria, another survivor had specific ideas about what she wanted for her dress, so we set out to create a custom design for her.
After our first fitting in muslin, we had finalized any issues with the designs I presented Mireille and Gloria and agreed a second fitting was a must. For the second fitting I created both designs as first fittings with no zippers and finishing. We worked out any fit issues and I set out to create the finalized looks for the runway.
The day of the show I had Dina Gomes, a new boutique owner on the Cape, assist me backstage. Dina specializes in wigs and since there were so many women dealing with issues of hair loss at the show, I thought Dina would be a great person to speak with if she met anyone with questions etc.
The show went well the models and survivors had a great time and really worked the runway. It was overall a great show.
